1. Daily cleaning

Cleaning frequency

For stainless steel storage tanks that store general liquids (such as drinking water, non-corrosive chemicals, etc.), it is recommended to clean the exterior at least once a month and the interior once a quarter. If the storage is food, medicine and other substances with high hygiene requirements, the cleaning frequency should be higher, and the interior may need to be cleaned once a week.

Detergent selection

In general, the use of mild cleaning agents, such as neutral detergent, diluted at a ratio of 1:100 to 1:200 used to clean the outside of stainless steel storage tanks. For internal cleaning, if it is a food grade application, a food grade citric acid solution (about 1%-3% concentration) can be used to remove scale and light stains. Avoid using cleaners containing highly corrosive ingredients such as chlorine and fluorine, as these ingredients may corrode stainless steel surfaces.

Cleaning tool

External cleaning can be done using a soft damp cloth or sponge. For the inside of the tank, a long-handled soft brush should be used, so that it can be easily cleaned to all corners of the inside of the tank. During the cleaning process, care should be taken to avoid using sharp tools to scratch the stainless steel surface, because the scratch may become the starting point of corrosion.

Cleaning procedure

External cleaning:

First rinse the outside of the tank with clean water to remove dust and loose dirt on the surface.

Apply the diluted cleaner to a damp cloth or sponge, then gently wipe the surface of the tank, starting at the top and working from top to bottom.

For places with stubborn stains, you can slightly increase the wiping force, but be careful not to damage the surface. After wiping, rinse the cleaning agent thoroughly with water to ensure that there is no residue.

Internal cleaning:

First empty the tank of liquid.

Rinse the interior with clean water to initially remove the residue attached to the wall.

Pour the prepared detergent solution into the storage tank and scrub with a soft brush, paying particular attention to corners, welds and joints.

After brushing is complete, drain the cleaning solution and rinse repeatedly with clean water until the pH of the flushing water is close to neutral to ensure that the cleaning agent is completely removed.

2. Long-term care

Corrosion prevention

Although stainless steel has good corrosion resistance, corrosion may still occur in some environments. If the tank is in a humid, chemically corrosive gas (such as acidic or alkaline gas) environment, the tank surface should be treated with corrosion protection. A thin layer of stainless steel protective oil can be applied to the surface of the tank periodically (such as once a year), which forms a protective film on the surface of the stainless steel and prevents oxygen and corrosive substances from coming into contact with the stainless steel.

Inspection and maintenance

Regular (every six months or a year) comprehensive inspection of stainless steel storage tanks. The inspection contents include whether there are signs of corrosion on the surface of the tank, whether the weld is firm, whether the interface and the valve are normal. For small corrosion spots found, they can be repaired with stainless steel special repair agents. If the corrosion is severe, the tank may need to be professionally repaired or replaced.

Avoid physical damage

To avoid physical impact on the storage tank, a protective fence around the storage tank can prevent vehicles or other objects from colliding. At the same time, when installing and maintaining equipment, pay attention to the use of tools to prevent accidental scratches or dents to the storage tank. These physical injuries not only affect the appearance of the tank, but may also destroy the passivation film of the stainless steel, thereby reducing its corrosion resistance.
